About Cromwell's Piano ServiceRichard Cromwell has been a full-time professional in the piano industry
since the late 1990's. Over the years he has serviced well over a thousand
instruments, examples range from concert tunings for world famous pianists to

appointments, Cromwell's Piano Service operates a 2,500 square foot Service and
Restoration Center in downtown Royal Oak, MI. Shop procedures performed upon
clients' pianos include restringing and rescaling, wrestplank duplication and
fitting, custom hammer boring and hanging, bridge repair, soundboard refinishing
and repair, plate re-bronzing, action parts replacement and fabrication, key
resurfacing, repair and rebushing, ivory keytop restoration, installation of
custom climate control systems... and much, much more. Caption: Richard is seated next to the only known “GI Steinway” still in
existence. During World War II pianos like this were parachuted to troops behind
enemy lines for field entertainment – complete with a manual and tuning hammer

technician Franz Mohr. Mr. Mohr was chief Concert & Artist Technician for
Steinway & Sons for 35 years. Vladymir Horowitz was said to never play a
concert unless Franz prepped the piano.
