 For over 300 years the piano has reigned supreme as the king of musical instruments. It is a machine of fabulous mechanical complexity. It is comprised of thousands of moving parts, its plate and soundboard withstand tremendous string tension, and the case is composed of beautifully finished cabinetry.While most pianos are extremely robust, all are subject to deterioration over time. Felt wears, strings corrode and break, wooden components and glue joints fail, the cabinet loses its luster. Regular maintenance can help to compensate for minor wear and tear, but heavy playing, or even worse, neglect – especially combined with wide and/or frequent seasonal fluctuations in the piano’s environmental humidity -- can cause serious deterioration and mechanical system failures. Today, many older instruments of good quality exist in various stages of wear. Often this wear happens slowly over time and will go unnoticed by the instruments owner. Subsequently, many pianos are performing far below their potential. In many cases some vintage pianos are simply left un-played and neglected because of their poor condition. Cromwell's Piano Service Inc. possesses the skills and resources to bring such instruments back into excellent playing and aesthetic condition.
